What is GHK-Cu, and why does it matter?
GHK-Cu (copper tripeptide-1) occurs naturally in human plasma and was first isolated in 1973, when researchers found it kept older cells behaving like younger ones in lab studies. The catch: natural GHK-Cu levels fall as you age — from roughly 200ng/mL in your twenties to around 80ng/mL by your sixties, a decline of about 60%. That drop-off tracks closely with slower skin repair and reduced collagen production.
In a human trial comparing topical GHK-Cu against vitamin C and retinoic acid, GHK-Cu increased collagen in 70% of volunteers — outperforming both.
